Man walks away after driving under hazardous tanker truck in Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH – A driver walked away without injuries Monday after his Toyota ended up under a tanker truck carrying hazardous materials.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Corporate and Grafton at the Pease International Tradeport when police said the tanker was making a wide turn when the car drove under it.

The driver walked out of the car and declined medical treatment.

Inside the tanker was sodium hypochlorite, a potent solution used to treat wastewater and sewage.

The Deputy Fire Chief said if the tanker was punctured, the driver would have suffered severe injuries.

The accident caused severe traffic delays around the crash during the morning commute.
