Man United rallies for 3-1 win at Preston in FA Cup

The Associated Press

Manchester United rallied from a second-half deficit and won 3-1 at third-tier Preston on Monday night, advancing to an FA Cup quarterfinal at home against defending champion Arsenal.

Scott Laird put the hosts ahead in the 48th minute with a shot that deflected off Antonio Valencia and past goalkeeper David de Gea. Ander Herrera tied the score in the 65th, Marouane Fellaini got the go-ahead goal seven minutes later off the rebound of his initial shot and Wayne Rooney converted a penalty kick in the 88th after referee Phil Dowd ruled he was tripped by goalkeeper Thorsten Stuckmann.

The quarterfinals will be played the weekend of March 7-8. Liverpool hosts second-tier Blackburn, third-tier Bradford is home against second-tier Reading and Aston Villa hosts West Bromwich Albion.
