ERROL — A man swam to an island and called 911 after his boat capsized while he was canoeing near where the Androscoggin River and Lake Umbagog meet.

While trying to turn his canoe into the wind, he rolled over. Bruce Jordan, 68, of Wayland, Massachusetts, was able to swim to a nearby island of mud and grass to make the 911 call on his cell phone at 1 p.m.

Errol Fire Department, Errol Rescue and Conservation Officers responded by 1:14 p.m.

Rescuers searched the area for Jordan, and found him.

He was cold and wet, but was not transported for medical attention.
