Man suffers crushed pelvis, internal injuries after falling from a tree

BOSTON - Dave Dion of Nashua is counting his blessings as he recovers in a critical care unit at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. While working in a tree in Hudson last week, he unhooked himself from the crane for just a moment.

“I slipped and fell 100 feet,” Dion said.

Hitting every branch on the way down, he briefly lost consciousness.

“I woke up and the first thing I said was ‘I'm sorry’ to the crane guy. I don't ever want to put nobody through that,” Dion said.

Dion's family rushed to the hospital while he was flown by medflight. He suffered a shattered pelvis, a ruptured liver and kidney and some scrapes and bruises.

“I really thought I was coming down to say goodbye to him, you know what I mean, if even I had the chance,” said Dion’s son Dave.

This isn't the first time Dion has given his family a scare. It’s a reccurring theme that's landed him a few nicknames.

“Like Danger Dave, Dynamite Dave, Man of Steel, he's got a bunch of them,” the younger Dion said.

Dion has a few more days in the hospital before heading to rehab. He says he'll go back to the same line of work, but promises his kids he'll be more careful.

“It was a stupid, stupid, stupid mistake. I won't make it again,” Dion said.
