Man's body found after fire destroys old New England farmhouse
UNION, Maine — An 80-year-old man died in a fire that destroyed his farmhouse Wednesday morning.
State Fire Marshals in Maine were dispatched to a fire just before 2 a.m and arrived to find the old farmhouse completely engulfed in flames.
The farmhouse on Route 131, which was one of the oldest in Union, was home to 80-year-old Lawrence Dries. Fire Marshals found Dries' body in the first floor bathroom of the home.
Investigators say that the fire started in the kitchen but the exact cause cannot be found as the home was completely destroyed.
An excavator was brought to the scene to knock down the remaining pieces of the farmhouse as firefighters continued to pour water on the debris of the home.
