Man retrieving fallen gas grill from roadway hit, killed by driver in Rochester

ROCHESTER — A man was killed while trying to retrieve a gas grill that had fallen out of the back of his truck and into the roadway on Route 16 Tuesday evening.

Kenneth Long, 72, of Sanbornville, was hit by 2015 Subaru Station Wagon driven by Eric Grabowski, 51, of Middleton. Troops responded at approximately 5:14 p.m.

Grabowski was arrested on charges of driving under the influence. Route 16 was closed for four hours while police investigated the scene.

Long was traveling with his son Christopher Long, age 52, when a gas grill came out of the back of their pickup truck. Kenneth Long was hit while he was out in the roadway, trying to get the grill back. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
