Man in critical condition following pig attack
TOWNSEND, Mass. — A Townsend farmer and his wife were attacked by a pig Tuesday, leaving the man in critical condition.
Fox25 Boston reported police were called to the farm at 188 Fitchburg Rd. for a 38-year-old woman with cuts from an apparent pig attack.
The woman, later identified as Shannon Hernandez, told FOX25 that she had been going into the pen to get the pig back in its stall when it went after her. Mrs. Hernandez said she was able to get away and call for help, which is when to was taken to Leominster Hospital to be treated for her injuries.
Around 7:30 p.m., emergency responders were again called to the farm for Jose Hernandez, who had suffered serious injuries from the same pig.
Mrs. Hernandez said a nurse found Mr. Hernandez bleeding on the side of the road and called 911, likely saving his life.
A medical helicopter was called for Mr. Hernandez, but due to weather conditions he was taken by ambulance to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester with life-threatening injuries. Mrs. Hernandez said Mr. Hernandez lost a lot of blood. Two main arteries in his right hand had been cut.
