Man ejected after truck rolls down embankment into opposite lanes of travel on NH highway

DOVER — A Massachusetts man was ejected from his truck after travelling into the opposite lanes of travel, police said.

Police received a report that a person was lying in the roadway on the southbound side of Route 16, just north of Exit 9, Monday around 10:51 a.m.

Martin Gavin, 63, of Stoneham, Massachusetts, left the travel portion of the roadway to the right in a pick-up truck, traveled down the embankment and then entered back onto the roadway where the truck flipped onto its side, police said.

Gavin was ejected from the vehicle and suffered serious injuries. Officials transported him to Wentworth-Douglass Hospital where he was later flown to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Police shut down travel lanes on the southbound and northbound sides, allowing cars to travel in the breakdown lanes in both directions until they cleared the scene.

Anyone with information pertaining to this crash is asked to contact Trooper Brian Ross, New Hampshire State Police, Troop A Barracks at 603-223-8490.
