Man drowns after canoe capsizes, 3 others swam to shore

STARK (AP) — A man has drowned after the canoe he was in flipped over in a pond.

The New Hampshire State Police say a canoe carrying four people capsized just before 1 a.m. on Saturday morning. Three of the passengers swam to shore and called police, but the fourth canoer did not make it. A search team uncovered the man's body around 8 a.m.

The police are not releasing the man's name until his family is notified, and the cause of the accident is under investigation.

The four people were canoeing on North Pond, located in the New Hampshire mountains. The police did not say how deep the pond was.
