Man denies sexually assaulting friend's daughter
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — A Springfield man has been charged with sexually assaulting his friend's 14-year-old daughter.
The Republican reports that 37-year-old Christopher Phelps pleaded not guilty Friday in Springfield to charges of rape of a child by force and indecent assault and battery on a child under 14. Bail was set at $100,000.
Prosecutors say the sex assaults had been happening for several months before Phelps' fiancée found emails describing them on April 8.
Authorities say Phelps had known the victim's father for years and has known the victim since she was born.
Authorities say the girl told police the sexual contact began when she was 11 years old or younger. Police say she told them her and Phelps began having sex when she was 14.
