Man crashes into car left unoccupied by woman tending to injured owl in Keene
KEENE — A man crashed into a vehicle that a woman left unattended while taking care of an injured owl by the side of the road, police said.
John Blair, 69 of Alstead, rear-ended a 2008 Scion that had been occupied by Stacey Elliott, 43 of Alstead, while he was driving a 2006 Toyota Prius,Sentinel Source reported. The crash happened at about 6:15 p.m. Monday on West Surry Road near Darling Road.
Elliot's car was parked halfway off the shoulder of the road when Blair's vehicle struck the left corner of the Scion, police said.
Blair was taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries. Elliot was out in the road with the owl, and was left uninjured.
The director of the Winchester Rehabilitation Center, Deb Gode, picked up the injured owl. Gode identified the bird as a young barred owl that had suffered head and soft tissue injuries from a collision with a car.
She expects a couple of weeks of recovery time for the owl before it is released back into the wild.
