Man charged with possession of heroin after disturbance at Manchester homeless shelter

MANCHESTER - A man was arrested for possessing heroin after police got reports of an individual acting disruptive at a homeless shelter early Sunday morning.

Police responded to New Horizons homeless shelter when staff members reported that a client was allegedly acting disorderly.

Officer located 29-year-old Raymond Atkins inside of a bathroom stall where officers found a spoon, a belt, a cotton ball and a cup of water on the toilet paper dispenser, all of which Atkins allegedly tried to hide from police.

He was taken into custody and charged with resisting arrest/detention and possession of a controlled drug after the spoon and cotton ball tested presumptive positive for heroin.

Atkins is scheduled to appear in court on March 7.
