Man charged with attacking girl in Merrimack mall

MERRIMACK - A Connecticut man is in custody after police say he attacked and pinned down a girl in a secluded area near the food court at the Merrimack Premium Outlet Mall on Wednesday afternoon.

Desmond Mighty, 25, of Windsor, Conn. is charged with attempted kidnapping, criminal restraint, false imprisonment, criminal threatening and assault, along with drug and firearm charges that stemmed from a search of his vehicle.

Police say a girl, identified only as being under age 18, was leaving the restroom when she was grabbed and pinned to the ground. Police say he threatened her so she feared for her life, but she started screaming and got the attention of a bystander who approached and the suspect fled the area.

Both the victim, who said she did not know her attacker, and the bystander provided police with a description of the suspect, which led police to Mighty in the parking lot. Mighty was taken into custody and his car was searched. Police say they found two loaded guns and a large quantity of marijuana packed for distribution.

Merrimack police are asking for anyone who may have seen Mighty in the area to contact police at 424-3774. He was held on a $100,000 cash-only bail and arraigned via video in Merrimack District Court on Thursday morning.
