Man barred from owning pets after strangling dog, neglecting cat

PORTSMOUTH - A man convicted of strangling his neighbor's dog has just been fined for neglecting his own cat, Pickles.

Seacoastonline reports that Roger Pelletier, 50, of 263 Rockland St., Portsmouth, was found guilty in the Portsmouth Circuit Court of misdemeanor animal cruelty charge by Judge Sawako Gardner, who barred the defendant from adopting any pets for one year.
The judge fined Pelletier $1,000 with $750 suspended if he remains on good behavior for one year.
Police learned that Pelletier owned after he attacked his neighbor's Shih Tzu dog in November. Pelletier told the police he had a cat that needed attention and the city animal control officer found the cat heavily matted and dirty.
Pickes was returned to the Cocheco Valley Humane Society and is now in good health, according to police.
Pelletier served 90 days in jail for strangling the dog.
