Man attacked outside Rochester bar dies, identified as popular Seacoast drummer
ROCHESTER - The man assaulted outside a sports bar early Sunday morning has died.
Police said that James Unfonak, 44 of Rochester, was pronounced dead Tuesday at Maine Medical Center.
Unfonak was a drummer with the popular Seacoast band "bang n jane," according to the Lebanon Voice.
The band took to Facebook, to honor their bandmate and friend - even thanking him for donating his organs.
"It is with our deep sadness, we have to announce, February 1st at 238 pm jim Unfonak was pronounced dead at maine medical center, his organs will be donated as anyone who knew jim knows he would have wanted. Jimmy u was truly the nicest kindest person you could ever meet, willing to lend a helping hand at a moments notice. Many many great shows together over the last 22 years. There will be no more shows, bang n jane has lost its drive and one of its founding members, jimmy was bang n jane. He was truly a brother and friend, fly high jimmy u. We love and miss you..truly the saddest day, heaven just got the best drummer anywhere...love you jimmy"
Police said an autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause and manner of his death.
According to the Voice, Unfonak got into an altercation with a person or group of people inside Gary's Sports Bar at 38 Milton Road in Rochester, which resulted in that group getting kicked out. Unfonak was attacked later when he left the bar.
