Man assaults, robs woman after offering to pay for her items at Manchester store
MANCHESTER — Police arrested a 22-year-old man after he attacked a woman from behind and stole her belongings on Thursday at about 11 p.m.
Abdiraham Malin allegedly attempted to talk to the female victim in the Down the Block Store, located at 167 Hanover Street, while in line to pay. Malin offered to pay for her items but the female declined, left the store, and proceeded to walk home.
When she reached the area of Lowell Street and Walnut Street, Malin came up behind the victim, and struck her on the left side of the head. She fell to the ground and hit her head on the curb, leading to a a large cut on her head. Malin then grabbed her purse and ran away.
The female victim gave the police a physical description and told them what he was wearing. Video footage from the store also helped in identifying the suspect.
Detective Gonzales recognized a man walking on Granite Street that fit the same description at about 2 a.m. on Tuesday. Malin was wearing the same clothes as well.
Malin was soon arrested and charged with armed robbery. He will be arraigned on Friday in Manchester.
