Man arrested outside Salem's Park View Inn after allegedly choking woman, ransacking room

SALEM - A Manchester man faces charges after police say he choked and and hit a woman at the Park View Inn.

Jason Coelho, 35, was taken into custody with help from a police K-9 after he fled into a wooded area behind to inn, police said. He was charged with second-degree assault and resisting arrest, criminal mischief and obstructing the report of a crime.

Police say they got a call around 4 a.m. from the Park View Inn when someone reported hearing a man outside yelling to be let in.

Police arrived to find a key broken off in the door and spoke with the female victim inside who had marks on her arms and neck. She told police Coelho had come to the room to talk when he became agitated and threw her on the bed and began choking her. Another woman in the room tried to separate him. He evenually left but came back demanding his car keys. At that point, police say he reportedly assaulted her again, choking her and ransacking the hotel room damaging a bathroom door and a table.

Police were not able to find him in the immediate area but they noticed his car was still in the parking lot. Additional officers were contacted including Salem Officer Dan Nelson and his K-9 Trigger.

Coelho was arraigned on Monday and is being held on $10,000 cash bail.
