Man arrested after police say he was going 108 mph on rural country road in Benton

BENTON - State police say they stopped a Piermont driver going 108 mph on Route 25 on Saturday evening.

Peter Mizzilli, 52, was charged with reckless driving after police say they pulled him over just before 7 p.m. on the two-lane rural road. The trooper who made the stop said he smelled marijuana smoke in the vehicle. Police say Mizzilli admitted to having marijuana in the car and a search subsequently located a small quantity along with a small smoking device in the car.

The car, a Ford Mustang, also was unregistered, according to police.

Mizzilli was released on bail and is scheduled to appear in Haverhill District Court on March 8.
