Man allegedly kidnapped, punched, threatened Manchester woman with gun

MANCHESTER - A woman who says she was knifed, punched, threatened with a gun and held against her will fled her alleged captor and went to police on Wednesday morning.

Police say the woman reported she'd been stabbed with a knife while in the car with the suspect who subsequently punched her, slammed her head against a wall and threatened her with a gun in an apartment two days later. She says she was able to flee after the suspect fell asleep.

Police say they noted the woman had multiple facial injuries.

Officers took the suspect, Sheldon Grant, 34, into custody after a brief struggle at the apartment on Orange Street. Police say they also located a stolen .45 caliber handgun in the apartment.

He was charged with kidnapping, criminal threatening, being a felon in possession of a firearm, receiving stolen property, resisting arrest and preventative detention. Grant was scheduled to appear in the 9th Circuit Court of Manchester on Thursday.
