Man accused of trying to rob Manchester convenience store

MANCHESTER - Police arrested a man accused of robbing Crosstown Variety on Saturday night.

Samuel Robie, 32, is charged with robbery.

The store clerk said Robie entered the store and appeared suspicious. When the clerk opened the cash register, Robie reached over the counter and attempted to grab the money inside of the register, police said.

The clerk struggled with Robie but Robie was able to free himself, police said.

Robie then tried to leave the store with the money, police said. A customer in the store heard the struggle and ran to assist the clerk, police said. The suspect was able to exit the store but the clerk and customer caught Robie and restrained him in the parking lot until police arrived, police said.

Robie refused to speak with the bail commissioner and was sent to Valley Street jail, police said.
