Man accused of luring 14-year-old Keene girl through Snapchat pleads guilty
KEENE — A California man accused of using Snapchat to lure and entice a 14-year-old Keene girl to perform sexual acts pleaded guilty to two counts felonious sexual assault on Wednesday.
Jonathan Christy, 27, of Placentia, Calif., met the young girl on Snapchat and arranged to meet with her. Once in Keene, Christy allegedly picked the girl up from Keene Middle School and brought her to his hotel room at the Keene Inn where sexual contact was reported. The girl's mother became aware of the exchange and contacted the police.
Christy appeared in court in Cheshire County Superior Court on Wednesday afternoon where he pleaded guilty to two count of felonious sexual assault. As part of the negotiated peal deal, Christy was sentenced to two-to-six years in state prison. He must also register as a sex offender upon release, according to the Keene Sentinel.
He also pleaded guilty to a third felonious sexual assault charge for which he was given a suspended sentence for two to six years, suspended for ten years.
Christy's defense attorney said that he will likely serve his parole upon release in California, and he will undergo sexual offender evaluation while incarcerated. She argued that he has no previous criminal history and that untreated depression most likely led to the crime.
