Male NH lawmaker seen parked in expectant mother spot says he didn't see sign
The state lawmaker whose car was caught parked in a spot reserved for expectant mothers said he didn't see the sign when he stopped at the mall.
Ed Butler, D-Hart's Location, has been getting blasted on social media after his car was photographed in the spot, but he told NH1 News it was a misunderstanding, and that he stopped quickly to use the restroom after dropping off bulk-mail postcards.
"I went to the NH Mall because it was close and I could use the public bathroom," he wrote in an email. "I parked in that slot by backing up & unfortunately didn't see the sign. I went into the mall, went to the bathroom, left and moved my car."
The social media storm started after Jeremy Dubois posted several pictures of the car in the parking space on Facebook. Dubois said the man getting out of the car ignored him after he confronted the man.
"Apparently he is more important than an expecting (sic) mother," Dubois wrote in the post. "When I called Him out on it he played dumb and continued on about his way through the mall."
Butler said no one came up and talked to him.
"I can understand being upset that someone who wasn't pregnant parked in that spot," Butler said." But if the gentleman who took those pictures obviously knew that I wasn't pregnant, he must have seen me exit my car. If he had pointed out what I didn't see - the sign - at that time, I would have, of course, moved the car. What kind of person sees an opportunity to malign someone instead of pointing out their mistake?"
