Lyndeborough firefighter who died when tree fell on his truck in Weare identified

WEARE - A Lyndeborough firefighter who died in an accident on Route 114 on Tuesday evening has been identified as 31-year-old Derek Lankowski.

Lyndeborough Fire Chief, Brian Smith, released this statement Tuesday night:

"Tragic day for the Lyndeborough Fire Department, today we lost a firefighter, friend, and a family member due to a freak accident. He was the type of guy that would do anything for anyone; he would always have stories to tell and got along with everyone he met. Our hearts and prayers go out to his wife, family and friends."

Smith said Lankowski had been with the department for eight years.
