Longtime Laconia councilman and state rep Bob Luther has died

LACONIA - Laconia state Rep. Robert “Bob” Luther has died at the age of 72.

According to the Laconia Daily Sun, Luther died at home on Saturday.

A Navy veteran and former police officer, he served on the city council for seven consecutive terms. There he was known as a strong advocate for the city's playgrounds.

In 2010, he was easily elected to the New Hampshire House of Representatives. He was re-elected in 2012 and 2014.

Gov. Maggie Hassan issued the following statement on Tuesday:

“Through his service in the United States Navy and at the Laconia Police Department and as a city councilor and state representative for the City of Laconia for more than 30 years, Representative Bob Luther was tireless in his commitment to serving his fellow Granite Staters and Americans. I join Bob’s family and loved ones, the Laconia community, his fellow legislators and people across the state in mourning his loss.”
