Londonderry Police set up drug take-back box

LONDONDERRY - Police will be installing a permanent drug take-back box in the lobby of the station.

Police are inviting people to anonymously drop off unused prescription medication, ointments, and patches, pet medicines, and vitamins. Police said the box will be accessible 24 hours a day, every day beginning April 18.

The department does not accept needles, inhalers, aerosol cans, hydrogen peroxide, thermometers, batteries, trash or over-the-counter liquids, lotions or ointments.

The department is installing the new box in an effort to help reduce prescription drug abuse and the threat of accidental poisoning and reduce the impact on the environment. The permanent box will replace the biannual "Drug Take Back Days."
