Londonderry man faces more charges in connection with Raymond home invasion
BRENTWOOD — A Londonderry man arrested in connection with a Raymond home invasion is facing more charges including attempted kidnapping and cruelty to animals.
Michael Whalen, 27, was arrested on June 13 after police were able to match Whalen's DNA to a sample collected from a knit hat and baseball cap left behind during the Jan. 19 home invasion, the Union Leader reported.
Whalen and an unidentified partner allegedly attempted to tie up Jack Reid Jr. with electrical tape. They then stole five replica wrestling belts and nine replica championship rings from Boston sports teams, along with cash from Reid’s wallet after storming into his home.
Reid's pitbull was also beaten with a bat by Whalen during the attack, police said. Police said the two suspects fled the scene in Reid's 2010 Dodge Charger.
Whalen now faces charges of attempted kidnapping, cruelty to animals, burglary, second-degree assault, robbery, conspiracy to commit burglary and two counts of theft by unauthorized taking.
