Londonderry custodian accused of shooting man in Manchester
MANCHESTER - Police said a fight led to a shooting Thursday morning near Maple and Hanover streets.
Officers responded to the area around 7 a.m. Police said witnesses reported a fight in the middle of the street after two men got out of their vehicles and started arguing. Officers said witnesses also reported hearing several gunshots and noticed one man on the ground.
Ira Cohen, 64, of Manchester, was taken into custody and charged with two counts of first-degree assault.
Cohen works as a custodian with the Londonderry School District. NH1 News learned Cohen has been on leave since January for undisclosed reasons.
Cohen will remain on leave during the investigation said Londonderry Superintendent Nathan Greenberg.
The victim, Mason Pereira, 24, was shot twice in the abdomen and was lying in the street when two nurses driving to work stopped to help. Pereira was taken to Elliot Hospital where he remains in serious condition police said Thursday afternoon.
A handgun was recovered from the scene.
