Local motorcyclist killed in Laconia accident
Laconia police are looking for witnesses to a fatal motorcycle accident that occurred in town Thursday.
Police arrived at Union Avenue shortly before 4 p.m. near Friendly's and discovered a motorcyclist traveling west had collided with a car traveling east that was turning into a business on Union Avenue.
The rider was transported to Lakes Region General Hospital and was later flown to Dartmouth Hitchcock. The cyclist died of their injuries.
Sgt. Mike Finogle of the Laconia Police Department did not released the name of the rider, who was on the bike alone, but said they were a local area resident.
Sgt. Finogle acknowledged the accident occurred just as Bike Week activities were about to kick off, but said, "this is a crash that could have happened on any given day."
Finogle said the accident is under investigation and specific causes or conditions are not definitive.
"Right now we're looking at the rate of speed the motorcycle was traveling." Additionally, he said, was the possible failure to yield by the car involved.
Finogle said police would be interested in seeing witness photographs or video from either before or after the accident.
