Litchfield School Board reverses course after chairman resigns, votes to extend superintendent’s contract

LITCHFIELD – After the resignation of school board chairman Dennis Miller Wednesday night, the remaining four members reversed course and voted to extend Superintendent Brian Cochrane’s contract for another two years. The abrupt turnaround came after the board voted 3-2 last month to not renew Cochrane’s contract, essentially deciding to part ways with the superintendent. Wednesday’s vote was taken in non-public session and was unanimous, according to Brian Bourque, who took over as chairman after Miller left. “During the non-public portion of the School Board meeting late last evening, school board members and superintendent Cochrane had a thorough discussion about how to move forward as a unified team,” Bourque said. “After careful consideration, as well as community input, the motion was made to re-open the vote and reconsider extending Dr.
