MERRIMACK — Merrimack police are warning residents of a possible rabid fox in the area of Camp Sargent and Whittier roads and Cedar Lane.
Police said the fox is extremely aggressive and will chase you if approached.
"If you are on foot in this area, please be aware of your surroundings as it will charge you," Merrimack police wrote in a Facebook post.
Police captain Denise Roy said there have been three unprovoked attacks by the fox, while walking or running in the area. Two of the three people required medical attention. Police did not know their current condition.
Roy said there are several officers in the area and are hoping to locate the fox before school lets out and buses are on the streets. She said either officers will be on hand when students get off the buses at their stops or the kids will be dropped off at a safer location.
Roy encourages people to stay away from the area on foot. If you see the fox, please call police at 424-3774. She stressed that people should not approach the fox and let police do their job.
