Lee man accused of trying to get police to kill him expected to plead guilty

The Associated Press

DOVER — A New Hampshire man accused of threatening police in an attempt to be killed by them is scheduled to plead guilty.

Jury selection in the retrial of Steven Amazeen, formerly of Lee, was canceled last week and a plea hearing is set for Aug. 25.

Prosecutors say Amazeen became "suicidal and despondent" after his wife told him she wanted a divorce in December 2012.

They say he fired his gun in their bedroom and outside their home, displayed it when police arrived and demanded that they shoot him.

His lawyer argued Amazeen never pointed the gun at the officers.

A jury had found him not guilty on four criminal threatening charges, but he is still facing three other counts.
