Lebanon man charged with DWI after police say he refused to stop, fled and crashed his car

LEBANON - A police pursuit on Wednesday night ended when the driver lost control and drove over a steep embankment, coming to rest against several trees above the Mascoma River.

Police say they tried to stop a car driven by Patrick Roland, 53, of Cooper Street, for a motor vehicle violation on Mechanic Street around 8 p.m. He refused to stop and continued to speed east onto the Bank Street Extension, where he went off the road.

Roland was removed from his car by Lebanon fire and police personnel and taken to the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center with minor injuries.

He was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, a subsequent offense, and disobeying a police officer. He was released on personal recognizance bail and is scheduled to appear in court on March 21.
