Late TD lifts Plymouth State

PLYMOUTH -- Senior running back Mark Hennessy ran for his second touchdown of the game with 23 seconds to play to break a tie score and give Plymouth State at 30-24 non-conference victory over Mount Ida College on Saturday at Currier Field

Hennessy's TD came three playes after Plymouth State's RJ Kasper recovered a fumbled punt on the Mount Ida 5-yard line.

The victory evened Plymouth State's record at 1-1. Mount Ida fell to 0-2.

Mount Ida trailed 24-10 with 10 minutes to play, but pulled even on two TD passes by senior quarterback Jawad Yatim, the second of which came with 3:30 to play.

Plymouth State grabbed a 7-0 lead on a 2-yard run by QB Ryan Perron. The lead grew to 10-0 on a 20-yard field goal by Rob Giles with 4:37 left in the second quarter. The Panthers led 10-3 at halftime.

Hennessy's first TD came on a 16-yard run in the third quarter and extended Plymouth State's lead to 17-3 entering the final 15 minutes.

The teams each scored in the first five minutes of the final quarter. Yatim scored on a 1-yard run on the first play of the quarter, and Plymouth State answered with a 14-yard TD run by sophomore DJ Williams.

Hennessy finished the game with 89 yards rushing. Perron completed 8-of-13 passes for 95 yards.

Senior Kyle Wilson (Dover) led the Plymouth State defense with eight unassisted tackles, including two sacks.
