Landrigan: Hillary Clinton's daughter Chelsea makes family pitch 4 weeks before NH primary

CONCORD - She used to live in the White House.

Now, Chelsea Clinton made her first public appearance for Hillary’s 2016 campaign - and it was in the Granite State.

"I’m thrilled to be back in New Hampshire, and I’m so grateful to have an opportunity to share a bit about why I so strongly support my mom,’’ said Chelsea Clinton - who might have the most famous set of parents in America.

Clearly, one of Chelsea’s goals is to show off Grandma’s softer side.

"How interested and engaged they (Hillary and Bill Clinton) are in every aspect of their (Chelsea's daughter) life - whether it’s reading to her or singing to her, she loves, 'Wheels on the Bus' - so that’s a big family activity,’’ Chelsea said.

And Chelsea is expecting.

Her daughter, Charlotte, will have a sister this summer, and Chelsea lamented the lack of paid family medical leave in the United States.

"In fact, we are only one of nine countries in the world that don’t guarantee time off for mothers of new infants,’’ she said.

She said her first memories are of her mom fighting for public pre-schoo -l and in this campaign, she has a plan to make pre-K universal within a decade.

"So still 30 years on she is still working for - and fighting for - ensuring that every child has the opportunities to succeed,’’ Chelsea said.

It was considered a successful event - and unlike her charismatic father - the soft-spoken Chelsea isn’t going to be upstaging her mom.
