Lakeport Fire Station possibly up for grabs, offer made to Laconia City Council
LACONIA — The City Council will hold a public hearing to determine whether the former Lakeport Fire Station is available for sale when it meets on Tuesday, Oct. 11.
Erica Blizzard, who owns and operates Lakeport Landing Marina, has placed an offer to purchase the former fire station, which has not been operated since 1981, according to the Laconia Daily Sun.
The station has served as a dormitory for student firefighters and housed fire vehicles from time to time until relatively recently. It currently serves as a garage for vehicles of the Community Emergency Response Team, they report.
Blizzard plans to preserve the fire station, but stated that it would not be possible to convert it for commercial uses. She proposed to demolish the station and construct a 10,000-square-foot building. The Lakeport Association has been resisting demolition of the station.
Blizzard has offered $127,700 for three lots, which together amount to less than an acre.
If the city does agree to sell the property, other parties have expressed interest in submitting offers to purchase it.
