Laconia woman struck by van while crossing the street, taken to hospital

LACONIA - Police are investigating a crash in which a van struck a pedestrian at the crosswalk of Union Avenue and Messer Street in Laconia on Sunday evening.

The pedestrian, a 21-year-old woman and resident of Laconia, walked into the crosswalk when the light was showing a solid walk signal when a white passenger van driven by a 44-year-old Laconia man struck her in the southbound lane of Union Avenue. Speed and alcohol are not believed to be the cause of the crash.

The woman was transported to Lakes Regional General Hospital with no serious injuries.

Laconia police encourage anyone with information to contact the department.
