LACONIA (AP) — The Laconia Police Department is searching for an unidentified man who seriously injured one victim during the armed robbery of two women near a central New Hampshire mall.

Police say two women in their 30s were attacked and robbed at gunpoint by a white male as they were walking along the Winnipesaukee-Opechee-Winnisquam trail from the Belknap Mall.

The assailant pushed one of the women to the ground and grabbed the other's purse while brandishing a small handgun. One of the victims sustained severe head injuries.

The robber made off with the purse, a passport and IDs belonging to the women.

The suspect is described as being of average weight and taller than 5-foot 6-inches. He had a brown goatee with no mustache. Police say he strongly smelled of alcohol.
