Laconia man arrested after trying to enter car occupied by mother and her young daughter

LACONIA - Police arrested a man Friday evening who reportedly tried to enter a car where a mother and her 10-year-old daughter were sitting.

The mother locked the doors and called 911. Police subsequently located a man walking nearby who met the description provided by the mother. He refused to stop and speak to an officer and police say a struggle ensued.

Joseph Costello, 23, identified as homeless, was charged with resisting arrest, resisting detention, assaulting a police officer, criminal threatening of an officer and improper influence after police say he threatened to put a bullet in an officer's head while being told about his bail status. Police say Costello also had attempted to break into an apartment on Blueberry Lane.

He was taken to Lakes Region General Hospital for suspected drug influence before being transported to the Belknap County jail where he was held on $5,000 cash bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Laconia District Court on Monday.
