Laconia house fire injures 2 residents, kills 2 pet cats

LACONIA- A house fire in the area of Elm Street School was put out by multiple fire departments in the Lakes Region, leaving two residents injured and two cats deceased.

On Tuesday at 1:14 p.m. Laconia, Gilford, Belmont, Tilton and Meredith Fire Departments - as well as off-duty firefighters - responded to the one-story home fire.

Lt. Ellingson reported heavy fire and his crew put two hose lines in operation - one through the front door, and one through the front porch, to extinguish the main body fire.

Both residents of the ranch needed medical attention.

The husband had burns to his head and the wife was suffering smoke inhalation. Both entered the house trying to save their three cats - firefighters were able to save one.

Although the fire was out in 20 minutes, there was extensive fire damage on the front porch and breezeway and smoke and heat damage to the remainder of the house.

The cost of damage is estimated at $70,000.
