Laconia home completely destroyed after owner tried to relight stove's pilot light


LACONIA - Engines from Laconia, Gilford and Belmont responded to a heavy fire coming from a 1-story home on 518 Weirs Boulevard at around 11 a.m. on Thursday.

The home wound up being totally destroyed, officials said. Meredith fire and EMS and Tilton fire responded as well.

There was concern that the fire would spread to neighboring buildings which are about 12 feet away. The firefighters directed water streams at two propane tanks located at the back of the house to prevent an explosion.

The fire began with an accident when the homeowner attempted to relight the pilot light on the stove.
