Keene State dorm bathroom found vandalized with swastika symbols

KEENE— Graffiti looking like a swastika symbol was found on the ceiling of a Keene State dorm bathroom, Tuesday.

A Keene State psychology professor, Lawrence Welkowitz, said he heard of the incident and went to the scene this morning, but the custodial staff was already painting over the swastika, according to the Sentinel Source.

Welkowitz estimated that the swastika was about eight inches by eight inches. The image was taken by a custodial worker, Welkowitz told the paper.

He also said that the custodial worker told him told him the swastika was burned on some time Tuesday night.

In an open letter to the Keene State College community, the faculty at Keene State wrote, "We are committed to maintaining a peaceful community that values diverse viewpoints, that encourage respectful dialogue, and that emboldens all of its citizens to thrive within a framework of openness and acceptance."
