Keene smoke shop 'Phat Stuff' closes, owners leave town

KEENE - A Keene smoke and accessory shop has closed and is moving to Vermont.

Phat Stuff, the Main Street head shop run by Katie and Panagiotes J. Eliopoulos, is now completely empty, according to the Keene Sentinel. A note on the front door announced the business is moving to Brattleboro, Vt.

The shop was raided by federal agents in 2014 in a crackdown on synthetic drug manufacturing and distributing. Feds zeroed in on hundreds of shops in Project Synergy.

The pair had legal trouble after their arrest in February of 2015 for conspiracy to commit money laundering and conspiracy to offer drug paraphernalia for sale, according to the paper. The couple pleaded not guilty.

However, in a March 10 plea bargain, Panagiotes Eliopoulos pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of causing misbranded drugs to be introduced to interstate commerce.

The Keene location was rented to them by state senator Andy Sanborn, R-Bedford.
