Keene residents shocked as details of woman's alleged murder-for-hire plot released

KEENE - A woman has been charged with trying to hire a hitman to kill her ex.

Keene police say 25-year-old Kerri Reason was orchestrating a plot to kill her son’s father, offering $5,000 to her ex-husband.

The story is the talk of the town.

Neighbor Adam Chabot says he’s lived near Reason since they were kids, and that his newspaper delivery route brought him to her front door.

"I was shocked actually," he said. "I see posts all the time how shes fighting with him and then one day she loves him again."

Court paperwork shows Reason reached out to her ex-husband in Connecticut, who she rarely speaks with since their separation 6 years ago.

In the communication - pretending to be a family member - she asks him, "Is there anyway I could hire you to take someone out. If so how much money?"

He replies, "No."

She goes on, later saying "Don’t tell anyone we had this conversation."

At that time, her ex-contacted Keene police, who asked him come to Keene.

He agreed, and on Monday morning - she agreed to pay $5,000 cash, and admited that it was, in fact, that it was Reason that he was talking to.

Paperwork shows Keene police put a wire on him, and sent him into her home, where they discussed the killing - and in lieu of money, she'd give him an iPod as collateral."

Reason was arrested after they two stepped ouside for a cigarette.

"Seeing that she murdered for hire, plotted to kill him - that shocks me," Chabot said.

NH1 News stopped by her listed address Tuesday – and family members told us, "No comment."

Also in the text conversation in that paperwork – Reason said she has mental health issues.

She will be back in court a week from Wednesday, but for now - she’s being held on $500,000 cash bail.
