Keene-area businesses creating healthier workplaces

The Associated Press

KEENE — More than 150 organizations and businesses in the Monadnock Region have joined a challenge to make their workplaces healthier.

The Healthy Monadnock 2020's Organizational Champion program asks organizations to develop plans to create healthier workplace environments. That could include banning smoking, offering "walking meetings" or providing designated areas for women to breastfeed their babies.

Altogether, participating companies and organizations reach nearly 9,000 employees. Some of the most recent additions include Monadnock Community Hospital, the Keene Sentinel, Cross Fit Keene and the Keene Housing Kids Collaborative.

Healthy Monadnock 2020 is a community engagement initiative created by Cheshire Medical Center and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene in 2007.
