Keene alerts residents of plans to begin water main flushing program

NH1.com

KEENE — The public works department plans to start an abbreviated water main flushing program on Sunday.

The work will be done between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. in an effort to minimize the possible inconveniences of off-color water, pressure drops, and traffic delays.

The first week of flushing will continue until Friday, Oct. 7 at 6 a.m.

The water flushing is done to benefit the water mains and to protect the quality of the water, the public works department explained in a news release.

The purpose of the flushing is to scour loose material that might be caught on the inside of the main with high-speed water. Then any buildup is discharged into a drain or on the ground.
