Jury convicts Hinsdale man of child sex abuse in cases involving 2 girls

KEENE - A jury has found a Hinsdale man guilty of 10 counts of sexual abuse involving two girls, including inappropriate touching, multiple sexual assaults and possessing a video of one of them engaging in sex acts.

Richard Waite, 49, who has yet to be sentenced, faces decades in prison as a result of his 10 convictions, according to Assistant Cheshire County Attorney John M. Gasaway Jr., according to the Keene Sentinel.

A jury of five women and seven men issued their verdict following four days of testimony.

According to Gasaway's opening statement, the sexual abuse against the younger girl began when she was 11 and escalated through the years until the girl turned 18 in 2014. Waite also groped the other girl beginning at age 14, but that girl fought back and ultimately found an escape from him, Gasaway said.

A date for Waite’s sentencing has not yet been set. He is being held without bail at the Cheshire County jail in Keene until then.
