Judge upholds guilty verdict in former Belknap Country Deputy Sheriff's rape case

LACONIA — The former Belknap County Deputy Sheriff convicted of raping an inmate lost his bid to have the jury's verdict overturned.

Ernest Justin Blanchette, 36, will be sentenced on Friday morning in the Hillsborough County Superior Court North in Manchester. He could face a maximum sentence of 10 to 20 years in prison.

Judge Gillian L. Abramson was responsible for Blanchestte's trial and denied Defense Attorney Brad Davis' motion asking the court to overrule the guilty verdict, the Laconia Citizen reported.

Abramson listened to Davis' post-trial pleading and found no error in her earlier analysis, meaning that the guilty verdict will stand.
