Judge orders partial release of video of police shooting man

The Associated Press

HAVERHILL — A judge has ordered the partial release of body camera videos showing two officers shooting and killing a man who lunged at them with a knife.

Judge Peter Fauver had delayed release of the shooting after a lawyer for Hagan Esty-Lennon's ex-wife and children asked to halt the public release of the video on the grounds that it was graphic and would upset the children.

Fauver on Friday said video showing what led to the shooting can be made public but portions showing Esty-Lennon's "death-scene" would be removed.

The attorney general's office, after reviewing the videotapes, ruled the shooting by the two Haverhill police officers to be justified. The images, taken July 6, show Esty-Lennon lunging at the officers with a knife moments before he was shot.
