Joseph Lawrence held without bail, charged with killing wife in Merrimack

MERRIMACK - Joseph Lawrence was charged with second-degree murder in the killing of his wife, 61-year-old Darlene Lawrence on Thursday.

Lawrence was taken into custody Thursday night after Darlene Lawrence's body was found in their Merrimack home.

He appeared in court Friday afternoon for an arraignment hearing. No plea was entered, and he will remain at the Hillsborough Department of Corrections until his probable cause hearing May 7.

Police said a single shot to the neck with a handgun is what killed Darlene, and that Joseph Lawrence made the 911 call to the police.

Neighbors said Joseph was led away from the home Thursday but not in handcuffs.

A motive for the killing is not yet known.

Joseph and Darlene Lawrence's children had no comment and asked to be left alone at this time.
