John Stark, the man behind NH's 'Live Free or Die' motto, celebrated
Monday was General John Stark Day in New Hampshire, and celebrations were held around the state. More than 20 people gathered to celebrate at the Dunbarton Town Common, the Concord Monitor reported.
In Manchester, a celebration was held in Stark Park, according to ManchesterInkLink.
Stark, who is credited with coining the state motto "Live Free or Die," was born in Londonderry and served as a general commanding New Hampshire military regiments during the Revolutionary War, according to Militaryhistory.com
